“GreattoysOnline.com Opened its Flagship Store in Greenhills Mall

GH Mall’s Lion Dance competition has a grand prize of P100,000

Where’s my lion suit?! GH Mall, in partnership with pet park/salon/café Pawchester and the Huang Lion & Dragon Dance Group, are sharing the blessings in anticipation of Chinese New Year. There’s already a setup with a giant kawaii SNEKKK (snake), which I visited earlier in the week, so sharing some snaps in this post.

“As we welcome the Year of the Wooden Snake this coming Chinese New Year, many are already preparing to celebrate this auspicious holiday. If you’re eager to experience the festivities early, GH Mall, in partnership with Pawchester and Huang Lion & Dragon Dance Group, is hosting the country’s first-ever Lion Dance Competition with a grand prize of P100,000 at the East Wing Atrium on January 19, 2025.

The exhilarating competition will feature 10 Lion Dance teams from the Chinese community. They will showcase their talent and creativity in adding their own flare to the well-known cultural performance. It will be a display of impressive acrobatic stunts, colorful props, and heart-thumping drum beats that GH Mall visitors shouldn’t miss.

The Lion Dance Competition will have five categories: Snake, Centipede, Bridge, Drunken, and Scorpion. 

“We’re so excited to share our culture to everyone and for them to watch the lion dance performances for themselves. Our goal is to make this a yearly occasion during Chinese New Year, so we can continue bringing the community closer,” said Maine Uy, CEO of Pawchester.

“When we celebrate Chinese New Year, the lion dance is symbolic because the drum beat during the performance is meant to ward off bad luck. The more noise we make, we welcome more good luck into our lives,” said Gaius Uy, owner of Huang Lion & Dragon Dance Group. “The goal is to foster a community among lion dance performers, and to showcase Chinese culture to a wider audience.”

This will be the first time that Pawchester and Huang Lion & Dragon will host a competition of this size with a generous grand prize for the champion team worth P100,000. Subsequently, the first runner-up will receive P80,000 and the second runner-up will get P50,000.

The Lion Dance Competition will be held at the East Wing Atrium of GH Mall on January 19, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Mark your calendars for this exciting Chinese New Year performance!

Bayaniverse is back; “Quezon” to start filming this year

My twenty-peso coin is rattling! My old twenty-peso bill is crumpled and shaking!

Bust out the historical costumes and bring out the #RP612 speak because Bayaniverse returns with a vengeance as the “Quezon” movie starts filming later this year. Check out more details from the official TBA Studios press release:

“TBA Studios has announced that its highly-anticipated biographical historical movie “Quezon” is set for production this year with a target theatrical release later this year. “Quezon” marks the continuation of TBA Studios’ cinematic “Bayaniverse”—a series of films based on Philippine history that includes box office hits “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.” It is also the company’s first major film production since 2020, after bringing award-winning international films such as the Academy Award-winning “Everything, Everywhere All At Once” and “Past Lives”, and the Dolly de Leon-starrer “Triangle of Sadness” to Philippine theaters as a distributor.

The movie is expected to follow the life of Manuel L. Quezon, a Filipino lawyer and soldier who became the President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944, highlighting his tumultuous presidential campaign against then-President Emilio Aguinaldo. 

According to TBA Studios President and COO Daphne Chiu, “Quezon” will be released both locally and worldwide. She added that the film will be produced as a stand-alone—a movie that exists within the same cinematic continuity of TBA Studios’ beloved historical films “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral”, but will be made accessible to moviegoers who have not seen the earlier films.

 Jerrold Tarog, the director and co-writer of “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral,” is set to return to helm “Quezon.”

The film is supported by the Philippine government agency National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the latter announcing last year a funding support for the movie. This landmark partnership signals a shared goal between TBA Studios, NCCA, and FDCP to further strengthen the local film industry by delivering and promoting world-class films.

Casting for the movie’s major and supporting roles is currently underway and will be announced soon. Chiu teases that the cast will feature names that will surprise and excite audiences and hardcore fans of the Bayaniverse alike. 

TBA Studios made its mark in the Philippine film industry with the box-office and critical success of “Quezon’s” historical film predecessors—with “Heneral Luna” earning the title as the Philippines’ highest-grossing historical film of all time during its record-breaking theatrical run in 2015 and the Philippines’ official entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards.“

“Quezon” starts filming in March 2025 so there’s plenty of time to prepare your historical reenactments with the squad.

Where are my millennial Merlin simps at? Well, Colin Morgan is back on the screen and he’s portraying a hot stalker (allegedly!) in a series called, The Killing Kind. Peep the details below:

The description had me at “forbidden desire.” It’s giving: Dark romance fanfics when Merlin turns into a baddie. Anyone else made the Merlin x Arthur/MerThur ship their personality? And what can Colin Morgan say about the spicy vibes in this series? Read on!

“Talking about the chemistry between Ingrid and his character Webster, Colin Morgan told Total TV Guide, ‘There is sometimes something undefinable in people. It feels right and wrong and compulsive all at the same time. That’s the dynamic we played with. There needs to be an absolute level of trust between us as actors, in both the dialogue scenes and the intimate physical scenes.'”

“On playing flawed characters, Emma Appleton told Gulf News, ‘I have a history of playing broad characters. I enjoy it because we, as human beings, are flawed. The British tea is piping hot! Drink up some overseas chismis when you watch the anthology series “A Very ____ Scandal,” which is streaming on Lionsgate Play PH. The show also caters to that very specific demographic of Anglophiles who absorbed all that British culture through their emotional investment in Doctor Who, Sherlock, Good Omens, The Cornetto Trilogy and the like, featuring awkwardly charming actors. (Hi, yes, that would be me!)

I’m personally looking forward to watching “A Very British Scandal” since it features the glitz and glamour of the 1930s. Bonus points for having Claire Foy portray yet another royal. (And okay, fine, my low-key crush on Paul Bettany was also a contributing factor.)

Bratz is going to make fetch happen with their Mean Girls collection which drops October 3rd, you know, the day when Aaron Samuels asked Cady Heron what day it was, (It’s October 3rd). The collab includes Cady, Regina, then Gretchen and Karen as a special package deal just in time for Halloween.

Personally, the best part about launching dolls based on live-action movies is that as someone who cosplays, I can finally have a proper reference for the costume.

Update: Apparently, the Cady doll sold out immediately upon launch so is there even hope for the rest of us to get the dolls? I’m hoping I could get a Karen Smith doll later on because she’s my favorite character for obvious reasons.

A WinRar that you can actually buy?! That’s right! Street clothing brand tern, (like, IN-TERN-ET?), who are known for their nerdy apparel, released a bag shaped like the icon of the famous file archiver software that’s best known for being put on eternal trial mode by users to avoid paying. And yes, it’s WinRar approved as seen below!

“Hi, Barbie!” Poison Ivy x Harley Quinn dolls will hit the shelves this year

Herstory will say that they’re just besties! To celebrate Batman’s 85th Anniversary, Mattel Creations will be releasing Barbie versions of Gotham’s power couple girlfriends, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn! And even though the marketing will say that they’re just besties, we all know that they are in a romantic relationship together and in love.

The pre-orders are currently sold out (huhu) but I’m hoping to get at least the Harley Quinn doll once they’re officially released into the wild. Since I already have the Margot Robbie version of Barbie, it would be great to add a Barbie Harley into the multiverse. (I find it cool that both characters have been officially played by Margot Robbie.

New Anime Movie 2024: “The Colors Within” from the Director of K-On!

Y’all had me at K-On! the go-topic for K-Zone PH’s Anime-zing section during my time working there. I’ll never get tired of animated girl band coming-of-age stories with the shippable friendships. I’m loving the concept of seeing “colors” since it reminds me of the color auras that some people can apparently see. (Mine is yellow!)
