Before the movie started, there was a special video message given by the director, Shunji Iwai-san, who reminisced about working on the film and also honoring the late Japanese singer and actress, Miho Nakayama-san. Knowing that the main character passed away in real life adds an extra layer of poignancy to the storyline.<\/p>\n<p>I am sharing my post-movie thoughts about <em>Love Letter <\/em>based on how I understood it. If you have your own interpretation of the film, I would be more than happy to hear about it.<\/p>\n<p><b>Tita Kraken Bonus Points \u0d26\u0d4d\u0d26\u0d3f (\u0e51\u1d54\u2919\u1d54\u0e51)\u0b68\u0b67<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Extra points for aspects in a film that make it a more comfortable and enjoyable cinematic experience for this tita!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2705 <\/span><b>Twinning For The Win<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The late great Miho Nakayama-san skillfully plays two different characters, Hiroko Watanabe and Itsuki Fujii, who were both down bad for the same recently deceased dude, Itsuki Fujii, who shares his name with the latter. Her acting was so visceral that her constant coughing as Itsuki-san almost felt contagious. My fellow reviewer friends and I morbidly joked that she\u2019s had that cough for a month already. (I ended up coughing a bit myself!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2705 <\/span><b>The Yearning<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nakayama-san\u2019s dual role in the film allows her to delve into subtly distinct characters. The way she portrays\u00a0 Hiroko-san\u2019s grieving for her deceased lover was heartwrenching. I felt so bad for both women as they looked back on their respective history with the male Itsuki-san, compared themselves to each other, and pondered on \u201cWhat could have been\u201d and \u201cWhat should have been.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2705 <\/span><b>Village Vibes<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have yet to experience the winter season and yet I felt nostalgic for a place that I have never visited. The film immerses the viewer into the snowy landscape of Otaru giving us a glimpse of both the cozy atmosphere and the harsh conditions. (I felt like going to Baguio after watching this film.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2705 <\/span><b>Bittersweet Romance<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Love Letter<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is about constant yearning whether for love lost or a love that never came to fruition. A cozy slice-of-life drama about quietly expressing affection and working through grief. Left alone, Chihiro is forced to obey two conditions in order to survive: she must work for the witch Yubaba, and have her name taken away, which severs her from the world of humans. Their leader, Major Motoko Kusanagi, tracks a mysterious hacker known only as the \u201cPuppet Master\u201d who operates in the deepest parts of cyberspace. Like generations before them, they live a modest life according to the cycles and order of nature. One day, the village inhabitants become aware of a plan to build a glamping site near Takumi\u2019s house; offering city residents a comfortable \u2018escape\u2019 to nature. When two company representatives from Tokyo arrive in the village to hold a meeting, it becomes clear that the project will have a negative impact on the local water supply, causing unrest. The agency\u2019s mismatched intentions endanger both the ecological balance of the nature plateau and their way of life, with an aftermath that affects Takumi\u2019s life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>\u2727 <\/b>A SAMURAI IN TIME<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Comedy (131 minutes)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Director: Junichi Yasuda<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;At the end of the Edo period in Kyoto, during a stormy night a samurai prepares to fight against a ronin, when a flash of lighting hits and when he wakes up to find himself in a different time. He has been transported through time to the present day and the location where he was about to duel is now a film set for jidaigeki TV shows and movies. Still in his samurai clothes he is mistaken for an extra and immediately thrust into the world of jidaigeki productions. Due to his very \u2018authentic\u2019 look and speech, he starts working on many productions and finds himself playing the role of a \u201ckirareyaku\u201d, a swordsman whose job is to die spectacularly on film.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>\u2727 <\/b>MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM SEED FREDOM (2024)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Anime (124 minutes)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Director: Mitsuo Fukuda\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;Latest entry in the &#8216;Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Series,&#8217; Set in the Cosmic Era (C.E.), the story depicts the battle between humans with genetically enhanced physical and mental abilities from birth (Coordinators) and naturally born humans (Naturals). The year is C.E. 75. COMPASS has been established as a world peace monitoring organization to counter the invasion by Blue Cosmos, which calls for the expulsion of Coordinators. COMPASS member Kira Yamato and others join the fight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>\u2727 <\/b>CELLS AT WORK! (2024)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Action\/Comedy (110 minutes)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Director: Hideki Takeuchi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ever wondered what\u2019s going on with the intricate workings inside your body? This live-action take on the hit manga series Cells at Work! reimagines the human body as a bustling metropolis populated by 37 trillion cells. A rookie red blood cell and a ruthless white blood\/Neutrophil cell are just two inhabitants of high schooler Niko\u2019s body, and the duo must fight together to keep their human alive\u2014one immune system emergency and bacterial invasion at a time! But when the incident spirals into a high-stakes negotiation, Orimoto must tread carefully\u2014or face explosive consequences. Script and direction by Fujii Michihito. Taiwanese high school student Jimmy (Hsu Kuanghan) and Japanese backpacker Ami (Kiyohara Kaya) meet and fall in love. But when Ami has to suddenly return to Japan, she proposes a \u201ccertain promise\u201d to the devastated Jimmy. Eighteen years later, Jimmy heads to Japan to fulfill the promise they made that day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>\u2727 <\/b>THE BOY AND THE DOG (2025)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Drama (128 minutes)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Director: Takahisa Zeze<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kazumasa is desperately struggling to earn a living having lost his job. Months after the Great East Japan Earthquake he is met by Tamon a stray dog and a welcome breath of fresh air for everyone but the dog\u2019s sudden disappearance one night causes everyone to confront their own shortcomings.
