Once director Josh Boone read the script for\u00a0Regretting You, the movie adaptation of the best-selling novel by Colleen Hoover, he jumped right in.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cRegretting You\u00a0is a coming-of-age story about relationships between parents and children growing up, like my previous films\u00a0Stuck in Love\u00a0and\u00a0The Fault in Our Stars,\u201d shares Boone. \u201cI have always been and always will be attracted to movies about families, specifically kids who are finding out that their parents are fallible. That\u2019s an important moment in anybody\u2019s life.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Regretting You, Allison Williams and Mckenna Grace play the mother-daughter duo of Morgan and Clara Grant, respectively, as they explore what\u2019s left behind after a devastating accident reveals a shocking betrayal and forces them to confront family secrets, redefine love, and rediscover each other. Regretting You is a story of growth, resilience, and self-discovery in the aftermath of tragedy, also starring Dave Franco, Mason Thames and Sam Morelos, with Scott Eastwood, Willa Fitzgerald, and Clancy Brown.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The story works on multiple levels, says Allison Williams, which makes it perfect for a wide audience. \u201cThere\u2019s so much contained within this movie,\u201d says Williams, who plays Morgan Grant. \u201cWhen I\u2019m talking to another mother, I say it\u2019s about a mom who is watching her daughter go through a moment that completely changed her own life. She is hoping that her daughter won\u2019t do the same thing, but at the same time she does not regret having her daughter. When I talk to younger people, it\u2019s about a couple that\u2019s clearly meant to be together. That could actually be referring to either of the romances in the movie. It is also about a relationship that begins at the moment when two kids are about to embark on a new adventure in the world. That\u2019s part of what made it so meaty and such fun to work on.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Mckenna Grace, who plays Morgan\u2019s teen daughter Clara, the story was also a big reason she wanted to be part of the film; it was the quality of the script that impressed her from the start. \u201cIt hits all the right places,\u201d Grace says. \u201cIt\u2019s really sad, but still such fun. When I read the book, I really connected to Clara. The dialogue felt so natural that I sometimes threw in things from the book that weren\u2019t in the script, but that were so right for Clara. Josh created such a fun and safe environment to create in that it was easy. He\u2019s so much funnier himself than I ever expected.\u201d<\/p>\n

When director Boone offered Dave Franco the chance to play Morgan\u2019s love interest, Jonah, Franco seized the opportunity to play a character different from what he\u2019s played before. \u201cI have played degenerates in recent films, so when he [Josh] called and asked if I was open to playing a nice guy, I was ready,\u201d says Franco. \u201cIt is fun to play morally ambiguous characters, but it\u2019s also nice to play someone that audiences can root for.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a lot of drama in this movie and a lot of romance,\u201d continues Franco. \u201cMckenna once said that she\u2019s either crying or kissing or doing both in every single scene in this movie. And that\u2019s not far from the truth. We\u2019re hitting the broad spectrum of emotion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mason Thames, who plays Miller (Clara\u2019s love interest), agrees. \u201cThis movie can be very sad, but it\u2019s also very sweet, often funny and a bit of a journey. I hope the audience leaves crying. It\u2019s an emotional roller coaster, so bring plenty of tissues.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bestselling author Colleen Hoover, whose stories are known for powerful emotions, tumultuous relationships and unforgettable characters, shares: \u201cAudiences will have a fun and emotional experience. It is something you can watch with friends and family and feel good about, then go back and watch it a second time with a different group of friends. It\u2019s just a real feel good movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are certainly heartbreaking moments in the movie, but ultimately the filmmakers want audiences to be uplifted by the tale. \u201cNo matter what, life keeps going and things keep happening. says Boone. \u201cYou are going to laugh again. I say that from experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

The character played by Morelos, Lexie, is Clara\u2019s ride-or-die, her buddy since elementary school. \u201cLexie is just a fun, light presence,\u201d says Morelos, a proud first-generation Filipino-American. \u201cIn a movie where there\u2019s a lot of tension, Lexie is the knife that cuts it. I was laughing whenever I was on set \u2013 mostly at my own jokes.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Though Morelos hadn\u2019t read the book before being cast to play Lexie, they became a fan of Colleen Hoover after working on the movie. \u201cI have been familiar with Colleen Hoover\u2019s work for a very long time but to be completely honest, I haven\u2019t considered myself an avid reader since middle school,\u201d they share. \u201cMy attention span has dwindled as I get older, so to get this job was such a gift because it gave me the opportunity to rediscover my love for reading. Since then, I became a very quick fan of Colleen and her storytelling. Lexie immediately piqued my interest because of how fun and magnetic she was in the audition scenes \u2013 it felt as though she was jumping off the page. I was so drawn to her and the story she had to tell that I knew I wanted this job.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Aside from playing a really fun character, Morelos also enjoyed working with their fellow actors. \u201cEveryone was a joy to work with,\u201d says Morelos. \u201cAllison was so interested in Gen Z vernacular and I became her guide. She started saying things like, \u2018Slay the house down, Boots. Houston, I\u2019m deceased.\u2019 Dave Franco is so sweet and so curious.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regretting You is a movie best seen in cinemas with loved ones, says Morelos. \u201cEveryone should watch Regretting You in theaters with their moms, their best friends, and their partners,\u201d they say. \u201cWatching this film in a cinema filled with that much love will make you want to hold your people closer, it\u2019s that infectious. I want audiences to walk into the lobby talking about their own relationships \u2013 remembering the moments that you and your best friend got drunk after a big fight with your boyfriend, that night you had your first kiss and called your mom about it, and all the little moments that shaped your relationships in the long run. It\u2019s a story of love that everyone can relate to in their own little way, which is what will make Regretting You so special to so many people.\u201d<\/p>\n
